Can I use my CHOOSE Act ESA for a reading program?

The short answer, then how it pays today, what you have to keep, and what it costs.

The short answer

Yes. Curriculum and online learning programs are covered under the Alabama CHOOSE Act Education Savings Account, and A New Page is a structured-literacy reading curriculum for struggling and dyslexic readers, ages 3 to 18. Approval is still your administrator's call, so confirm your own account rules first.

The CHOOSE Act award is $7,000, and the homeschool award is $2,000 per student, capped at $4,000 per family.

Before you plan around it: for 2026-27 the CHOOSE Act is limited to families at or below 300 percent of the federal poverty level, with priority for students with disabilities and active-duty military families. Universal eligibility is scheduled for 2027-28.

The reading check is free for everyone. No account needed, right in your browser.

How it pays today

You pay through ClassWallet. A New Page is now an approved CHOOSE Act education service provider, so you can pay from your Education Savings Account through ClassWallet with no money out of pocket. We are still writing up the exact ClassWallet click by click and will publish it on this page as soon as it is written.

Step by step

  1. Start A New Page with a free week, no card, and run the free reading check.
  2. Choose the $399 annual Reading Curriculum Term License, one single charge, which is the line education programs handle most easily.
  3. Download your itemized receipt. It lists the product as a structured-literacy reading curriculum and a 12-month term license.
  4. Use your CHOOSE Act funds through ClassWallet, with the placement result and weekly progress reports as documentation. We will help with the paperwork.

What to keep for your file

Every program wants proof the money bought instruction. A New Page gives you all three pieces.

  • The placement result. The free reading check takes 5 to 10 minutes in your browser and shows where reading is breaking down.
  • Weekly progress reports. What your child practiced, and how their one-minute reading check moved against their own past scores.
  • An itemized receipt. Your receipt names a structured-literacy reading curriculum and a 12-month term license, with our EIN on it.

What it costs

$399 for a one-time, 12-month Reading Curriculum Term License. One charge, one receipt, every child in your family. That single clean line is what education programs handle most easily.

Prefer monthly out of pocket? $39 a month, also for the whole family. Either way you start with a free week and no card, and the reading check is free for everyone.

Why structured literacy, and not another reading app

A struggling reader, and a dyslexic reader especially, does not need more reading time. They need the code taught in order, one piece at a time, out loud, with enough practice to make each piece automatic before the next lands. That is structured literacy.

A New Page turns it into a story. Your child reads the hero's lines, you read the story around them, and those lines use the exact words from the step your child is on. About 15 minutes a night, reviewed by our Founding Literacy Advisor, an Orton-based reading specialist of 41 years.

Reading is not the thing they do before the story. Reading is how the story moves.
