Tips to engage your child

Small, easy ways to keep sound play warm and fun. From Julie Bedell, our reading specialist.

  1. Try a puppet

You can use a puppet to teach a lesson.

  2. Give your child time to talk

Move through each lesson, but allow your child time to talk.

  3. No need for extra practice

We are not looking for mastery of skills, so there is no need to add more practice to the lesson. Mastery will come over time.

  4. Want to do more? Nursery rhymes

If you want to do more, teach your child nursery rhymes.

  5. Read fun word-play books

Read fun word-play books, like Dr. Seuss books.

  6. Read any book your child would like to hear

Actually, read any book your child would like to hear, fiction or non-fiction!

  7. Always talk to your child

    Always talk to your child.
